MANILA PROTESTERS HOLD MOTORCADE VS SONA

Protesters from Manila held a motorcade today to Quezon City to join the rally against the President’s State of the Nation Address (SONA).

Led by the Pagbabago! People’s Movement for Change, the motorcade started at the Bonifacio Shrine in Manila and ended at Commonwealth Ave. in Quezon City where protests under the People's SONA were being held.

The motorcade was joined by buses, vans and cars that were dressed-up in Philippine flag colors.

Ms Bibeth Orteza, spokesperson of Pagbabago! said, “In the last eight years under Pres. Arroyo we have witnessed grinding poverty, repression, injustice and Mafia-like governance. Pres. Arroyo and her clique have undermined even the most basic requisites for a decent life.”

“We want an end to all of these, we want meaningful change. And so we send this message to Mrs Arroyo: it is time to go,” said Ms Orteza.

Protesters who joined the motorcade were mostly Manila residents from different barangays, clergy and nuns, doctors, health workers, and employees of the Philippine General Hospital (PGH). Students from various Manila campuses such as UP Manila, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, Adamson University and City Colleges of Manila also joined the motorcade. #
